09 Apr How to Have an Affair (Stuck and Lovin’ It!) Part 2
12 Actions to Ascertain an Affair. This week let’s continue…
- Think it can never happen to you (I Cor. 10:12).
Here the Bible tells us, “Take heed when you think you stand, lest you fall.” In almost 29 years of ministry, the common denominator with those who committed adultery is “I never thought this would happen to me!”
- Allow a little marital drift (Rev. 2:5).
I will never forget about 19 years ago when we still had our ministry headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. Anne and I were in Tulsa with Anne’s parents when I received a call from a pastor friend of mine asking if he and his wife could get together with me and Anne as soon as we got home. It seemed quite urgent! Upon return we quickly met this pastor and his wife for dinner. After the perfunctory greetings, the pastor turned to me and confessed to Anne and me that he had committed adultery on his wife. What he said next still rings in my ears to this day. He said, “We have become just business partners.”
You see, the two of them worked in the ministry together and they had forgotten how to be a husband and a wife. Anne and I both work in the ministry together, but we have never forgotten how to be friends, companions and lovers before we are business partners!
Remember this, husbands don’t just chase your career…chase your wife! Wives, don’t just chase your kids…chase your husband!
Next week, we’ll continue our series on How to Have an Affair.
