07 May How to Have an Affair (Stuck and Lovin’ It!) Part 6
Over the last number of weeks, we have been discussing 12 Actions to Ascertain and Affair. This week, let’s continue…
9. Throw out little verbal “feelers”.
When we first started Joy Church, during the “greeting time” of a service I watched a man “ogle” my beautiful wife and say, “Pastor Jim you sure are a lucky man!” After the ushers revived him from my left hook, I’m sure he enjoyed the rest of my message! Seriously, this is totally an inappropriate “feeler”. “Your husband is a lucky guy.” “If I were just single.” “If I were just a few years younger.” “If I were your wife I would never talk to you that way!” All “feelers” are is simply bait to hook the fish!
10. Steal away for clandestine lunches (John 3:19-21).
Make sure you tell your spouse, “It’s just lunch…it doesn’t mean anything.”
11. Have sex.
A youth pastor began counseling a young lady in his youth group. At first it was on the up and up. In time, it progressed…now the door to the office was shut. Eventually the counseling took place after hours. One night the youth pastor was at church and it was about 10:00pm. The youth pastor’s wife thought she would surprise her hard working husband and bring him a late night dinner. Upon her arrival, she walked into his office only to find him having sex with the young lady in his youth group.
12. Lie to yourself.
“God wants me happy.” “It wasn’t God’s will for me to marry my spouse in the first place.” “I’ll get forgiveness later.” If you want to have an affair, this is the way to do it. Here’s what the devil won’t show you…how adultery will destroy your marriage, kids, finances and discredit your witness (see Job 31:12 and Proverbs 6:26-34).
What do you say we stop this snowball from rolling down the hill in the first place! Let’s have an affair…with our spouse!
Next week we’ll continue this series and tell you how to be “Stuck and Loving it!”
