17 Dec IHOP (International House of Prayer) Dining for Two Part 3
Have you ever had a “holy heated discussion” with your spouse over which fast food restaurant you were going to go to?! McDonald’s if you wanted to be “McHappy”. Burger King if you wanted it your way. Subway if you wanted to see Jared and “eat fresh”. The choices are almost infinite. Unfortunately in marriage, friendship and even (or should I say especially) in the church, there is so much disagreement. Yet the Bible tells us in Matthew 18:18-20:
“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
As you can see from this scripture, there is tremendous power in agreement! Over the last couple of weeks we began to take a look at “Six Aspects of Agreement”:
Aspect #1: Agreement in marriage (I Pet. 3:7).
Aspect #2: Agreement in church (I Cor. 1:10).
This week let’s continue our discussion…
Aspect #3: Agreement multiplies your power (Deut. 32:30).
This powerful Bible verse tells us, “One can put a thousand to flight, but two can put ten thousand to flight.” In life, one plus one equals two. In the kingdom of God, one plus one equals 10,000! When two of us agree, we literally become ten times more effective. In the kingdom of God where two come together in agreement, it produces a spiritual synergy that brings tremendous results in the spiritual world!
I remember when Anne and I came together in agreement concerning having a baby about eleven years ago. Anne and I specifically agreed on so many things…she got pregnant just a few days after our agreement. Her pregnancy was so smooth with no morning sickness, she gave birth just 10 minutes after her water broke and with only four or five pushes (so fast we actually beat the doctor’s arrival…I told him when he arrived later that if this delivery was done by Domino’s…it would have been free)! She didn’t need any pain medication before, during or after the birth!
Aspect #4: Agreement produces great reward (Eccl. 4:9-12).
“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
(By the way, I literally know what it means for “two to lie together and be warm”! I call my wife “The Inferno”. In the winter she will curl up right next to me and will emanate heat almost equivalent to a bonfire! She will push me almost to the edge of our king size bed and many nights I will wake up in a pool of sweat due to this “hot mama”! Thank you for letting me get that off my chest!)
As you can see from this scriptural passage, there is great reward for two people who labor together in the kingdom of God!
Next week we will continue our series on “Dining for Two.”
