18 Mar Heroes…why not you? (Hebrews 12:1-3) Part 3
Over the last couple of weeks we began discussing the difference between a hero and a celebrity:
1. Celebrities are visible. Heroes are useable.
2. Celebrities are characters. Heroes have character.
3. Celebrities are popular. Heroes are powerful.
4. Celebrities speak of change. Heroes usher in change.
We also began discussing “Jewels from Joseph”:
Jewel #1: The greater the dream, the greater the opposition (Gen. 37:5).
This week, let’s continue…
Jewel #2: Those who don’t have your dream won’t have your reaction (Gen. 37:5)!
Joseph shared his dream with his brothers and they “…hated him yet the more” (Gen. 37:5). First, be selective to whom you reveal your dream. The Bible tells us, “Don’t cast your pearls before swine” (Matt. 7:6). I’ve learned in 29 years of ministry not to cast “pearly dreams” before pig people! Have you ever told someone something that you are so excited about, yet they responded with something like, “Oh, that’s nice.” Other people rarely have faith for your dream. When you announce your dream, those that God has called to stand with you will surface over time.
When we announced our plans to start Joy Church, initially many people voiced their desire to help, but eventually only 18 people helped plant Joy Church. There is a difference between those who intend and those who commit!
Remember this, don’t be intimidated by those who don’t share your dream. When God gives you your dream, He normally won’t e-mail your family! Next week we will continue our series on “Heroes…why not you!”
