24 Jun Why Should I? (Learning to See Yourself as God Sees You!) Gal. 3:11 Part 7
Have you ever noticed that you are stuck with you! Wherever you go…there you are! Therefore how you see yourself is so vital! Your inward portrait is so important because:
- How you see yourself determines what you see!
- How you see yourself determines how you see others!
- How you see yourself determines how you love others.
Did you know hurting people hurt people and whole people help people? If your finger has a splinter in it and it becomes infected and sore, it would only take a gentle brush against that finger for you to yell, “Ow…you hurt me!” In actuality, I did not hurt you at all, I just lightly brushed against a spot that was hurt already! Many years ago when we first started WCBI, I remember taking a guest speaker to a Chinese restaurant and there a young lady recognized us and asked, “Aren’t you the people who just started the Bible School?” To which I replied, “Yes, it’s our desire to train up individuals to be servant-leaders.” This is all I said. Immediately she quipped with a tone of bitterness, “Pastors should be servants too!” Obviously at some point in her life, she felt like she had been wronged by some pastor and all I did was brush up against her sore spot (see Heb. 12:15). Sometimes people are like porcupines…the closer you get to them the more it hurts!
4. How you see yourself determines how you see life.
I read a story not too long ago about a man with a big bushy mustache. This man fell asleep on the couch and while he was sleeping his kids put Limburger cheese on his mustache. After he had awakened, he noticed a horrific smell in the room and sighed, “It stinks in here!” He then got up and went into the kitchen. “It stinks in here too!”, he exclaimed. Quickly he moved to his bedroom to get away from the smell. “It stinks in here too!” Finally he ran outside hoping to get some fresh air. “Oh no,” he yelled, “it stinks out here too!” When you have Limburger cheese under your nose, all of life stinks!
Next week we’ll continue our series!
