90% (Because life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it)

Last time we began discussing 13 Aspects of Attitude. This week, let’s continue…

8. It only takes a moment to make an attitude adjustment.

Your spirit and your body are God’s (see I Corinthians 6:20).  However, notice what is conspicuously missing…your soul.  Your soul is comprised of our mind, will and emotions.  Somewhere tucked within your soul is your attitude.  Your soul is in your control.  Therefore, you can control your attitude.

9. The attitude you presently have is the one you’ve presently chosen.

If you don’t like your attitude, choose another one!

10. Attitude will take you farther than your IQ.

If you are not the brightest crayon in the box or the sharpest tool in the drawer…this is good news!

11. Don’t be rude in your ‘tude’…be renewed in your ‘tude’!

The Bible tells us, “And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may be able to prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God ” (Rom. 12:2).  The Greek word “transformed” is the word “metamorphao”.  We get our English word “metamorphosis” from it.  In the Greek language it likely means to “change shapes or change form”.  Our attitude does not need to be like the world’s…we can be renewed in our ‘tude’!

12. Attitude will determine your altitude.

How high do you want to fly?  Get on board and soar with a great attitude!  Remember, eagles never let turkeys bring them down.

13. We must take personal responsibility for our own attitude.

The Bible tells us, “ This is the day the Lord has made, I WILL rejoice and be glad in it ” (Ps. 118:24).  Notice the phrase “I will rejoice”.  Therefore it is a choice to rejoice!  The Bible also tells us, “Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, Rejoice ” (Phil. 4:4).

Here the Bible tells us our joy (or attitude) is independent of our circumstances. Our joy is to be in that which never changes…our Lord!  If our Lord never changes, then it’s possible for my joy (or attitude) to never change.  I know this is a tall order, but I’d rather shoot for the sun and hit the moon, than shoot for the top of the trees and fall to the ground!

I read a touching story about an elderly blind woman.  Her husband had just died and she now had to live in a nursing home.  As the
nursing home attendant was walking her to her room, she quickly told the elderly blind woman, ‘I hope you like your room.”  To which the blind woman responded with a big smile on her face, “I know I will.”  “How can you be so sure?” the incredulous attendant asked.  “You haven’t even seen it yet.”  To which the smiling confident blind woman responded, “It’s not about what the room looks like, I’ve already made up my mind to like the room.”

I’m not saying you can’t change your circumstances or that you are fatalistically stuck in whatever life hands you.  However, I am saying at some point in your life, you must decide you are going to love life…before it comes!

Next week, we’ll continue our series.
