06 Jan Pillow (Resting in the Promises of God) Part 2
The word “rest” is found in Hebrews 4:11-12, where the Bible tells us, “Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
It almost sounds like a total contradiction to “labor” to enter into “rest” until you understand the Greek language. The English word “labor” is translated from the Greek word “spuede”. One of “spuedes” primary meanings is “to meditate”. So in essence, these powerful verses are telling us to meditate on God’s Word until they become “larger than life”.
In other words, you are meditating on the promises of God until they become bigger than the problems you are facing. This will cause rest in your soul! In other words, I meditate on “The joy of the lord is my strength” (Neh. 8:10) until it becomes larger than the depressing circumstances I am facing! I meditate on “By whose stripes ye were healed” (I Pet. 2:24) until it becomes larger than the pain in my body. I meditate on “Cast all your care upon Him for He cares for me” (I Pet. 5:7) until it becomes larger than the anxiety I am facing. I meditate on Philippians 4:19, “But my God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” until it becomes larger than this lousy economy!
The promises become larger on the inside than the problems are on the outside!
