23 Jun Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way (Because Tenacity is a Necessity to Fulfill your Destiny) Part 9
This week we continue talking about “9 Channels of Change”. The last few weeks we covered 4 of them:
1. Sometimes people are more comfortable with old problems than new
2. The road to growth always travels through the city of change.
3. God-given change will always create better “normals”
4. People tend to keep you where they last saw you. Your change will expose the flesh of others.
This week we continue with…
5. When’s the last time you did something for the first time, and if it’s been a long time…it’s about time!
The Holy Spirit is our Comforter but God never promised to comfort us in our comfort chair. Remember this: When you step out of your comfort zone God will meet you there with His purpose!
6. You must be willing to initially do something poorly so you can eventually do something excellently.
It is rare that you start out doing something phenomenally well. I remember when we first started Joy Church 11 years ago. We tried to be creative but you should have seen some of the lame videos and live skits that we did! I can only hope no one has an old video…yikes! Today, however, we have pastors and churches that come from all over and check out what we do on the weekends!
When I was just a young man I was invited to speak at a small church on the Tennessee/Kentucky border. I remember it because it was “Fathers Day”. This was the very first time I had ever preached at a church in my life. Nursing homes, jails, Bible studies, etc. were the only places people wanted me to preach. As you can imagine, I thought I had arrived! They handed me the microphone at 10:40am and I preached until 1:40pm! I preached everything I knew (and made up some stuff I didn’t)! I went from Genesis to Revelation because after all, this might be my last time to ever preach in a church so I was determined to give ‘em all I had!
That church was crazy enough to invite me back after that debacle. Some churches are just gluttons for punishment! Well about three years ago, someone who was at that service who was just a boy, gave me a cassette copy of that tape that he had been holding onto for years! God actually brought his entire family to Joy Church and they serve in vital roles in our church!
I listened to a little bit of that tape (it’s all I could take) and I was so happy I had the last copy of it! You must be willing to initially do something poorly before you eventually do something excellently!
Next week we’ll continue our series!
