Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way (Because Tenacity is a Necessity to Fulfill your Destiny) Part 11

Over the last few weeks we have shared on this subject.  Our key verse was II Timothy 1:7, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.”

Then we began to teach on 10 Truths Towards Tenacity:

  • Tenacious people don’t waste time feeling sorry for themselves (Rom. 8:31).
  • Tenacious people don’t hand the reigns of their emotional well-being to another (Phil. 4:4).
  • Tenacious people embrace change (Ps. 55:19).

We covered “9 Channels of Change”:

  1. Sometimes people are more comfortable with old problems than new solutions.
  2. The road to growth always travels through the city of change.
  3. God-given change will always create better “normals”
  4. People tend to keep you where they last saw you. Your change will expose the flesh of others.
  5. When’s the last time you did something for the first time, and if it’s been a long time…it’s about time!
  6. You must be willing to initially do something poorly so you can eventually do something excellently.
  1. You must fight personal complacency. You fall prey to “success disease” when you feel good about where you are and what you have.
  1. If it ain’t broke…improve it!
  1. Never under-estimate the power to change yourself. Never over-estimate the power to change others.

This week we continue with our fourth truth from our 10 Truths Towards Tenacity:

  • Tenacious people don’t waste energy on things they can’t control (Phil. 2:14).

There are times when life is not always fair!  If life were fair then Elvis would still be alive and all the impersonators would be dead!

About a year ago, Anne and I and our son were traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take part in a week long conference.  We departed after church on Sunday and had to make an early unplanned exit in Memphis, Tennessee due to an incoming ice storm in Arkansas.  After staying in Memphis a couple of days, we decided to continue our trek.  We consulted the Arkansas Highway Patrol and we assumed that it was acceptable to travel.  I was soon to discover that some people in Arkansas have no idea what they are talking about!

As we proceeded, we found that traffic had slowed to a crawl.  There was approximately six inches of ice that had formed on the highway.  It literally took us 14 HOURS just to travel about 20 miles in the middle of the night in freezing temperatures!  We decided as a family to stick with one another and make the very best of this situation!  Since we could not control this situation, we chose joy and a good attitude the entire way!

When I tell this story people will invariably ask me, “What did you do when one of you had to use the bathroom over that 14-hour span?”  To which I replied, “What happens on I-40 in Arkansas…stays on I-40 in Arkansas!”

In life, always remember to enter the “No Moan Zone” because:

  • Complainers are not obtainers
  • Excusers are losers
  • Moaners are loners
  • Grumblers are fumblers
  • Whiners are not winners
  • Pitiful is not powerful
  • Gripers get the vipers!

Next week we will continue our series.
