09 Feb From Here (How to turn your Setback into a Comeback) part 11
Remember our key Scripture: I Thessalonians 5:15, “Rejoice evermore.” It’s a short but powerful verse. We discovered that the Greek word for “evermore” meant ‘from this time on’ and in everyday language, “from here”.
We have been learning “13 Facets to live a Constructive Life”:
- Part from Pity (Phil. 2:14).
- Never let your tragedy become your identity (Mark 5:26).
- You can’t unscramble eggs (Eph. 5:16).
- What we know is always more important than how we feel (Eph. 6:13-14).
- Never let go of what you do know because of what you don’t know (Matt. 11:5-6).
This week we continue with this same facet…
This is my 31st year of ministry and I watch people do this all the time. Something negative happens to them that they don’t understand and they are ready to throw away what they do know because of what they don’t know.
In my own personal life I was tempted to do this, but I did not succumb. As most of you know about 24 years ago I had to deal with severe cardiovascular symptoms…angina, tachycardia…to the point where I could barely walk and barely talk. It was so severe that I could barely get enough breath to talk when I was teaching the Bible. I couldn’t do any of the household chores a man would normally do around the house for months. My precious wife, Anne, had to do all them (that’s why even after I was healed I didn’t tell Anne…lol!).
I knew what the Bible had to say about healing. I had personally received healing before. I had prayed for many others and watched them receive their healing. However, in this case not only was I not getting better, but for 6 months I got progressively worse. I was determined not to let go of what I did know because of what I didn’t know!
The Bible tells us, “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32). Please notice from these powerful verses the following truths:
- It’s not the truth that makes you free, it’s the truth YOU know that makes you free!
- If you are not yet free, there is something you don’t yet know.
- If you are not yet free, you must continue in the Word.
The Bible compares the Word to light (see Psalm 119:130) and therefore in order to go from here and keep your life constructive, you must not let go of what you do know. Just shine more light on the subject. Trade in your candlelight for a flashlight. If that’s not enough, trade in your flashlight for a flood light! Continue in the Word!
Join us next week as we share more on this powerful principle…
