26 Jul From Here (How to turn your Setback into a Comeback) part 33
Over the last number of months, we have shared with you our key verse for this series, I Thessalonians 5:16, “Rejoice evermore.” In this short but powerful verse, we discussed the Greek word translated “evermore” literally means “from this point on”. In everyday language it means “from here”.
Then we began to share “13 Facets to Live a Constructive Life”:
- Part from Pity (Phil. 2:14).
Four Powerful Principles on Pity:
- Only two people show up at your pity party…you and the devil.
- Send an RSVP to your own pity party! Just decide not to show up!
- There are three emotions that will keep you stuck in the past…guilt, regret and self-pity.
- Self-pity says, “Why me?” Overcomers say, “Why not me?”
2. Never let your tragedy become your identity (Mark 5:26).
“Three Tragedy Truths”:
- You’ll never fully live if your life revolves around death.
- Tragedy is an event, not a lifetime.
- One thing survivors and winners have in common…they don’t wallow in the “why me” syndrome.
3. You can’t unscramble eggs (Eph. 5:16).
“Five Understandings why you Can’t Unscramble Eggs”:
- We all have “woulda, shoulda, coulda’s”
- If “if’s” and “buts” were candy and nuts…we’d all have a merry Christmas!
- One thing I discovered about “yesterday” is that it ended last night.
- God has a plan for wherever you land (Ps. 113:8-9)
- You can’t change it…but you can redeem it (Eph. 5:16)
4. What we know is always more important than how we feel (Eph. 6:13-14).
“3 Facets of Feelings”:
- Learn to get a hold of yourself before you ever try to get a hold of your circumstances (see Prov. 16:32).
- Allow feelings in your car, just don’t allow them in the driver’s seat.
- Always act your way into feeling. Never feel your way into acting.
5. Never let go of what you do know because of what you don’t know (Matt. 11:5-6).
6. Never compound bad decisions with more bad decisions (Rom. 6:19).
7. Life is not about “What ifs” but “What now?” (II Sam. 12:18-24).
8. Learn to Fail Forward (Phil. 3:13-14).
“6 Failing Forward Facets”:
- Let past failures strengthen your resolve for future success.
- Failing is an act. Failure is an attitude.
- When you fail…keep your sense of humor (Prov. 17:22).
- When you fail, ask why…not who.
“Three Blame Barometers”:
- We blame the devil, others and God.
- When we blame others for our failure, we will never overcome them.
- You can’t blame your way to a better tomorrow.
“Three Excuse Exhibitions”:
- Excusers are losers
- It’s easier to go from failure to success, than excuses to success
- Argue for your limitations, and sure enough they will limit you
5. Champions are not people who don’t fail. Champions are people who do not quit (Prov. 24:16).
9. Get back into motion (Ps. 126:6).
Please allow me to share with you “5 Motion Mandates”:
- Don’t substitute busyness for healing (Matt. 14:12-14).
- You can be on the right track and still get run over…if you’re just sitting there!
- Learn to trust God and leave unanswered questions behind (Ps. 37:3).
- Ships that stay in the harbor always collect barnacles.
- If you want the sun to shine in…you’ve got to go open the blinds!
10. Clean up, cheer up and choose up (II Sam. 12:20).
“3 Sight Standards”:
- What you continually see…you’ll eventually be.
- God is a God of hearts, but what you see affects your heart.
- Appearance alters attitude.
11. Understand life is seasonal (Eccl. 3:1)
12. Don’t isolate yourself (Prov. 18:1).
You were not created for isolation…you were created for relation! Learn to go from here!
13. Recognize you have a gift…it’s called “today” (Ps. 118:24).
“3 Today Matters”:
- Life is connected. The choices you make today directly affect your tomorrow.
- The number one reason people fail is they don’t connect today’s decisions with tomorrow’s destiny.
- Learn to channel the destruction into the construction.
Today is a new day, keep it constructive. Quit living out of your rearview mirror. Never let your history, determine your destiny! Learn to live your life…FROM HERE!
