09 Jan Book it! (Because a Bible that is falling apart indicates a life that isn’t!) Part 18
My goal for you in this series is three-fold:
- To love the Word
- To learn the Word
- To live the Word
Over the last number of months we have shared with you two “Bible beholdings”:
- If you want to know God you must know the Bible.
- Prayer is talking to God. The Bible is God talking to us.
We then began to share with you “Four Awesome Assignments to Assist you with the Word”:
1. Activate the Word
Three ways to activate God’s Word:
1.) Faith activates the Word (Heb. 4:2)
2.) Revelation activates faith (Eph. 1:18)
3.) Meditation activates revelation (Joshua 1:8)
2. Accept the Word (Matt. 7:24-27).
3. Assimilate the Word (II Tim. 3:16-17)
4. Apply the Word (James 1:22)
Then we began to discover some Truths to Trust God’s Word:
- The Bible is historically accurate (Ps. 33:4)
Three Tests of Historical Accuracy:
- Eyewitness accounts (I cor. 15:6)
- The Bible was recorded and copied with extra care.
- Archaeological confirmationThe Bible is scientifically accurate (I Tim. 6:20)
2. The Bible is scientifically accurate
(I Tim. 6:20) 5 Scientific Stupidities:
- The earth was flat
- The earth was held up by something
- The number of stars could be counted
- Medical science
- Contagious diseases
This month let’s continue…
3. The Bible is prophetically accurate (Matt. 26:56)
Many would look at the Word of God as quite “risky”. Please let me explain. There are over one thousand prophecies in the Bible and if only one was inaccurate you would have to disqualify the Bible as the “Word of God”. However don’t let your heart be troubled…the Bible is completely accurate when it comes to all its prophecies. Please allow me to expound.
There are over 300 prophecies concerning Jesus alone. The last prophecy was given 400 years before He lived and all the prophecies were given over a period of 1100 years. Now these prophecies were not generic like “The Messiah will come and He’ll be nice.” They were quite specific…He would be born in Bethlehem, flee Egypt and ride into Jerusalem on a donkey!
One of the most amazing prophecies is found in Psalm 22 where the crucifixion of Jesus was prophesied about. When David prophesied this there was no such thing! Crucifixion did not even exist!
Per Peter Stoner and 600 prophecy experts, for any one person to fulfill just eight of these prophecies the probability would be 1 in 10 to the 17th power (that’s one with 17 zeros after it!)! Please let me describe 10 to the 17th power in more descriptive terms. This would be like filling the entire stadium of Texas with silver dollars two feet deep. Then dropping a red silver dollar somewhere within the stadium. Then renting a helicopter, being blind-folded, and then you telling the pilot where you think he should lower you on a rope so you could select the one lone red silver dollar somewhere in Texas!
If just 16 prophecies were fulfilled by the same man, the probability would rise to 10 to the 45th power. If just 40 prophecies would be fulfilled by the same man, it would be 10 to the 152nd power! How can this be? The Bible tells us in II Peter 1:21, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
Next week we will continue our series…
