25 Oct They’re On Your Head (Quit trying to find your purpose and let your purpose find you) PART 6
A few weeks ago I began sharing this principle…
“Honey, where are my…?” You can pretty much fill in the blank. I am quite frequently asking my lovely wife Anne where something is located. My phone, my clothes and yes of course…my glasses! Invariably when you ask someone where something is, how do they usually respond? The dreaded, “Where did you see them last?!”
So many times what I was looking for was so close to me…if it were a snake it would have bitten me! All this time I was looking for something I couldn’t see, but yet it was very close in proximity!
We have been discussing that when it came to both my mate and my ministry, this principle was so true: When I searched for the will of God, it was always elusive. When I was faithful where I was…the will of God found me!
The Bible tells us, “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou may freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die. And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man” (Gen. 2:15-22).
If you will bloom where you are planted, you will harvest the will of God in your life!
The Bible tells us in Psalm 92:13, “Those that are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish in the courts of our God.” There are people who are faithful in one spot, and active and fruitful in that one spot. They are “planted” not “potted.” “Potted” plants can go anywhere but their roots never spread out and flourish. “Planted” trees spread out their roots and can’t be easily toppled in a storm. They can grow tall and their branches can provide shade for so many!
In order to discover the will of God for our lives, we must bloom where we are planted! We must be faithful where we are! The Word of God puts a premium on faithfulness.
Let’s reveiw our powerful scriptures on faithfulness:
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?” (Luke 16:10-12)
“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;“ (I Timothy 1:12)
“ For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” (II Timothy 2:2)
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2)
“A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” (Proverbs 28:20)
Quit searching for the elusive will of God and BE FAITHFUL RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE! After all, what you’ve been searching for could already be right on your head!
Last week I began sharing “10 Faithfulness Facets”:
1.) Life is connected
We have a lotto mentality in America. One day my “ship will come in.” “Everything will be different this year.” We eagerly hope as the calendar turns to January 1. However, hope is not a strategy. So many of us have uphill hopes but downhill habits.
2.) The decisions you make today directly affect your tomorrow
God is not mocked, that which we sow we also reap” (see Gal. 6:7). Better days don’t come up magically. Better days come up faithfully.
3.) Your faithfulness today qualifies you for a better tomorrow
Never belittle the little! Every great door swings from a small hinge. Every great storm begins with a small cloud. The only great Savior began as a baby in the manger.
4.) Your unfaithfulness today disqualifies you for a better tomorrow
It is never the nine to five worker who complains about every hour that gets to be CEO. It’s never the private who complains about every push up that gets to be a general.
5.) God will always give you an assignment smaller than your gift
Why? Because He cares more about your character than your gift. A man’s character is always more important than his gift. Your gift will open doors for you. Your character will keep you in the room!
This week let’s continue with…
6.) Private lions and bears always precede public giants
This was true with David in 1 Samuel. Everyone wants to defeat Goliath while the world watches on YouTube. However, we must learn to defeat private lions and bears when no one sees. David protecting Jesse’s sheep by candlelight qualified him to defeat Goliath in the spotlight!
7.) The number one reason people fail is they fail to connect today’s decisions with tomorrow’s destiny
Only fools think you can throw a rock into a calm pond and it won’t have any ripple effect.
8.) Every decision you make will either take you closer to or farther from your God-given destiny
Life is not a dress rehearsal…choose wisely!
9.) You are not a loser…you are a chooser!
Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” We did not choose our parents when we were born. However, we must not fall victim to what we can’t choose and decide to be a victor by what we can choose. We are eventually the summation of our choices. If you don’t like the harvest of those choices…choose differently! Choose biblically!
10.) The will of God is not just found by praying. The will of God will come to those who pray and obey!
Remember:
- Get a job
- Go to bed
- Let God create His plan FOR you
- Let God bring His plan TO you
You bloom where you are planted! Be faithful right where you are! Quit asking “What should I do?” and start asking, “What needs to get done?” Quit trying to find the will of God and let the will of God find you!
