First Things First (Worship is not just the song that I sing, but the life that I live) Part 10

So many times what we think our life revolves around and what our life actually revolves around are two entirely different things.

If your time, talent, treasure, thought and talk revolve around…

1. Money 6. Social media
2. Career 7. Your spouse
3. Sports 8. Your children
4. Power 9. Your phone
5. Sex 10. Acceptance

…you will never experience the peace, joy, purpose and fulfillment, destiny and
satisfaction God wants you to enjoy.

But our life actually revolves around our:
1. Time
2. Talent
3. Treasure
4. Thoughts
5. Talk

So let’s see if we can’t fix some of our priorities.

Let’s put first things first!

Over the past few weeks I have been to sharing with you “10 First Fixes”:

1. Worship is not just the song that you sing, but the life that you live.

2. When you come to church on Sunday…don’t come to worship, bring your worship
with you. Then take it home on Monday!

3. Quit treating God like a spare tire…you only pull Him out in emergencies.

4. Once you pull God out…keep Him out!

5. You will always become like what you worship.

6. The man molds the idol…then the idol molds the man.

7. “I’ll do anything you want God”…until He asks you!

8. If your God never tells you “no”…then you made that God up in your own mind.
The Bible tells us in II Corinthians 1:20, “All the promises of God in Him are
yes and amen.” Therefore, if God has promised something in His Word…that is His
“yes” and you don’t ever have to even wonder about it!

However, there are times when we go to God about various things that aren’t in the
Bible. Should you take that job? Should you date that person? In those gray areas, we
must seek the wisdom and counsel of God (see Matthew 7:7-9, Prov. 3:5-6)

9. You will never experience the best of God until you give Him all of you.

10. Good things become bad things, when they keep you from best things (Luke 14:26).
Sports, money, power, sex, career, hobbies, phones, friends, and our children and
spouses are all good things in their proper place. However, they can all become bad
things when they keep you from the best thing…Jesus!

Then I began sharing “Four First Facets”:
1. Put God first in your day…through communion (Matt. 4:4).
In other words, communion with God through His Word and prayer! Carve out 30
minutes in the morning before you go anywhere and spend it with Him. This way you
can respond to life rather than react to it! Remember this: No Bible…no breakfast. No
read…no feed.

2. Put God first in your week…through church (Heb. 10:25).
Honor God with corporate worship. Watching online is not enough! The church is
described as a vine with branches, a temple with stones, a body with members, and a
family with a Father. What is the common denominator? Connectivity.

Remember this: The only bananas that ever get eaten are the ones separated from the bunch!
(see Prov. 18:1 NKJV)

This week we wrap up our series with…

3. Put God first in your finances….through coin (Prov. 3:9-10).
This is referring to the tithe. This is 10% of your income that belongs in your local
church. It is a simple matter of honor. When you tithe you are honoring God and

believing that He can do more with 90% than you can do with 100%. I don’t know about
you, but in these economic tumultuous times, I need Him as my financial advisor!
4. Put God first in your decisions…through consultation (Prov. 3:5-6).
I watch so many Christians simply make major decisions in their life without ever
consulting God. They simply decide on their own and ask God to come along and bless
it. That is never how God intended it to be!
Destiny is not to be decided, it is to be discovered. He trusts our wisdom to pick out
something good for breakfast but when it comes to the major forks in our road…consult
God! Remember this: Never insult God when you don’t consult God!

Keep First Things First, because worship is not just the song that you sing, but the life that you live!
