Book it! (Because a Bible that is falling apart indicates a life that isn’t!) Part 19

Before we begin this week let’s review…

My goal for you in this series is three-fold:

  • To love the Word
  • To learn the Word
  • To live the Word

Over the last number of months we have shared with you two “Bible beholdings”:

  1. If you want to know God you must know the Bible.
  2. Prayer is talking to God.  The Bible is God talking to us.

We then began to share with you “Four Awesome Assignments to Assist you with the Word”:

      1.  Activate the Word

      2.  Accept the Word (Matt. 7:24-27).

      3.   Assimilate the Word (II Tim. 3:16-17)

      4.   Apply the Word (James 1:22)

Then we began to discover some Truths to Trust God’s Word:

  1. The Bible is historically accurate (Ps. 33:4)

      2.  The Bible is scientifically accurate

      3.  The Bible is prophetically accurate (Matt. 26:56)

This week let’s continue with…

      4.  The Bible is thematically unified

The Bible was written by 40 different people over 1600 years in 12 nations and three continents.  The fact that there are no contradictions and only complements within the Word of God is mind boggling!  The Bible tells us in  Luke 24:27, “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”

      5.  The Bible is trusted by Jesus (Matt. 5:18)

Many people say “I love Jesus” and “Jesus is love”.  However, you can’t truly trust Jesus without trusting in what He trusted in!  The Bible tells us in Matthew 5:18, “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

Please remember this: If you believe what you like in the Bible but you don’t believe what you don’t like…it’s not the Bible you trust in, it’s yourself!  Please don’t turn the Bible into some kind of buffet where you can pick and choose what you like.

God is love (I John 4:8) but love is not God.  Please allow me to explain.  God is love and therefore He gets to define what love is.  If love is God then love defines who and what God is…this always takes us down the slippery slope of relativism.  That’s why you see many individuals in this culture leading lives that directly conflict with how the Designer created us, holding up signs as they march for acceptance that say “God is love”.  If God is love then He gets to define what love is…not the culture.  Therefore if we say we love and trust God, we must love and trust what Jesus trusted…the entire Word of God!

Next week we will continue our series…
