Book it! (Because a Bible that is falling apart indicates a life that isn’t!) Part 28

This month we jump back into our series Book It!

Let’s take a moment to review…

My goal for you in this series is three-fold:

  1. To love the Word
  2. To learn the Word
  3. To live the Word

Over the last number of months we have shared with you two “Bible beholdings”:

  1. If you want to know God you must know the Bible.
  2. Prayer is talking to God.  The Bible is God talking to us.

We then began to share with you “Four Awesome Assignments to Assist you with the Word”:

  1. Activate the Word
  2. Accept the Word (Matt. 7:24-27).
  3. Assimilate the Word (II Tim. 3:16-17).
  4. Apply the Word (James 1:22).

For the last few weeks we have begun to discover some Truths to Trust God’s Word:

     1. The Bible is historically accurate (Ps. 33:4)

     2. The Bible is scientifically accurate (I Tim. 6:20)

     3. The Bible is prophetically accurate (Matt. 26:56)

     4. The Bible is thematically unified.

     5. The Bible is trusted by Jesus (Matt. 5:18)

     6. The Bible has enduring power (Luke 21:33)

     7. The Bible has transforming power (John 8:31-32)

Then we began to share  “Four Characteristics concerning Continuing in the Word”:

  1. Make it the foundation of your life (Matt. 7:24).

I began sharing different foundations that will surely not uphold you in this house.  Let’s call them “Four Faulty Foundations”:

          1.) Popular culture.

          2.) Tradition (Mark 7:7-9)

          3.) Reason

          4.) Feelings

This month let’s finally conclude our series!

If the “Four Faulty Foundations” won’t work, obviously our lives need to be found on the firm foundation of the Word of God!  Therefore please allow me to share with you:

“Two Tests to truly tell if the Bible is your True Foundation”:

  1. What do you do when you don’t understand the Bible?

Isn’t it amazing how we will do things all the time without truly understanding?  I use my I-pad all the time and I don’t truly understand how it all works (because I am not a millennial)!  I eat all the time and yet I don’t fully understand all the details of digestion. While I certainly will study and I will certainly be reasonable…when I don’t fully understand a verse in the Bible, I’ll still believe it!  The Bible tells us, “Let God be true and every man a liar” (Rom. 3:4).

Remember this:  Never let go of what you do know, because of what you don’t know.
