08 May Book it! (Because a Bible that is falling apart indicates a life that isn’t!) Part 31
Over the past few weeks we have been sharing “Four Characteristics Concerning Continuing in the Word”:
- Make it the foundation of your life (Matt. 7:24).
2. Make the Bible first place in your life (Matt. 6:33)
In Genesis chapter one, there is the beautiful account of creation and there the Bible states “In the beginning God…”. This of course in context is telling of the aforementioned creation, however I believe it is also espousing a life-changing principle. Whatever you do, make sure “In the beginning GOD”.
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:1-2, “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.”
From these powerful verses we can glean “Three Bible First Benefits”:
- Long life
- Length of days
- Peace
Remember this: Find out what the Bible has to say about any area of your life. Do it first and over time (not overnight) that area in your life will be blessed!
This week let’s continue with…
3. Make the Bible go farther in your life (Col. 3:16)
Here the Bible says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”Notice the phrase “Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in you…”. This is not something God will do for you. We must let the Word of God in! Much like steeping a bag of tea in hot water…the more we do it the darker that water gets! Well the more we dip the Word of God into our hearts, the more we will take on His nature (see II Peter 1:3-4).
Remember this: You will always take on the nature of what is continually “dipping” in you!
4. Make the Bible a fighter in your life (Eph. 6:17)
Here the Bible tells us, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” This powerful verse tells us we can go on the offense against the devil and whatever he tries to bring our way. Jesus did just that in His encounter with the devil in Matthew 4 and Luke 4, when He said, “It is written” over and over to the devil!
Need finances? It is written, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19).
Need healing? It is written, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed” (I Pet. 2:24).
Need confidence? It is written, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward” (Heb. 10:35).
Need freedom from fear? It is written, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (II Tim. 1:7).
Need joy? It is written, “For the joy of the Lord is my strength” (Neh. 8:10).
Going to the dentist? It is written, “I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open they mouth wide, and I will fill it” (Ps. 81:10)!
In all seriousness, remember this: Put the Word of God in you when you don’t need it, so it comes out when you do!
