15 Jul Psalm 91 (Protecting your family in Dangerous Times) PART 11
I am a fisherman and I truly enjoy fishing. It is a little mental get away for me. I recall a few years ago I was fishing with my family on a local lake. Out of nowhere, a huge summer storm emerged. The most ominous clouds were between us and where we had parked our car. Therefore we had to speedily run our boat to another marina across the lake!
We flew up to the marina, docked the boat and tied it down securely. We all ran looking for cover. The local marina store was closed and the storm was upon us. Our only place of refuge were the old rickety marina bathrooms covered by sheet metal! This storm was huge with very high winds…so strong the rain was blowing vertically. Believe me friends, when I tell you we were claiming Psalm 91 at the top of our lungs!
As the storm traveled over top of us it felt as if the roof was beginning to lift off. However, as always, God was faithful to His Word! Psalm 91 preserved us once again and we even went back to our fishing spot and caught a couple of very big fish!
Over the last few months we have given you an outline of “Three Protection Points”:
- The Prerequisites of Protection (Ps. 91:1-2)
- The Promises of Protection (Ps. 91:3-16)
- The Practicalities of Protection (Luke 22:36)
Contained within the Prerequisites of Protection we looked at Psalm 91:1-2: “He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him will I trust.”
From these verses we discovered four very simple words:
- Dwell
- Abide
- Say
- Trust
If we do the prerequisites we can enjoy the promises.
Psalm 91:3-16 goes on to tell us, “Surely he shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust: his truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid for the terror by night; or for the arrow that flies by day; nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; or for the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes will you behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, your habitation; There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come nigh your dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the dragon shall you trample under feet. Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him: I will set him on high, because he has known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”
Last month we left off at verse 10. This month let’s pick back up at verse 11. In verses 11 and 12 here is where we can tap into angelic protection. Please allow me to share with you “5 Angel Aspects”:
- Your angels protect you in all your ways….of obedience. The Amplified Bible literally tells us that your angels will keep you “in all your ways of service and obedience.” Don’t expect angelic protection as you speed to the nearest bar (unless it’s a salad bar!)!
Remember this: You can’t win from a losing position. Remember this also: James 4:7 tells us to “Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” If your “resister” isn’t working…check your “submitter”!Every one of you has a ministering angel (see Psalm 37:7, Hebrews 1:14).
2. Every one of you has a ministering angel (see Psalm 37:7, Hebrews 1:14).
3. Angels are not to be worshiped (see Col. 2:18).
4. You activate your angel by speaking the Word (see Psalm 103:20). The more you speak the Word the more your angel will respond on your behalf.
5. Your angel’s last assignment is to carry you to Heaven (Luke 16:22).
