21 Jun From Here (How to turn your Setback into a Comeback) part 28
Before we jump into new territory let’s review our key verse for this series found in I Thessalonians 5:16, “Rejoice evermore.” In this short but powerful Scripture, we discussed the Greek word translated “evermore” literally means “from this point on”. In every day language, it means “from here”. Then we began to share with you “13 Facets to Live a Constructive Life”:
- Part from Pity (Phil. 2:14).
- Never let your tragedy become your identity (Mark 5:26).
- You can’t unscramble eggs (Eph. 5:16).
- What we know is always more important than how we feel (Eph. 6:13-14).
- Never let go of what you do know because of what you don’t know (Matt. 11:5-6).
- Never compound bad decisions with more bad decisions (Rom. 6:19).
- Life is not about “What ifs” but “What now?” (II Sam. 12:18-24).
- Learn to Fail Forward (Phil. 3:13-14).
- Get back into motion (Ps. 126:6).
- Clean up, cheer up and choose up (II Sam. 12:20).
This week we continue as we share…
“3 Sight Standards”:
- What you continually see…you’ll eventually be.
- God is a God of hearts, but what you see affects your heart.
- Appearance alters attitude.
Now I know some of you altruistic purists out there are saying, “I never judge a book by its cover…I always look at people’s hearts.” Oh really? Well let me paint a little scenario to find out if that is true. Let’s say you were coming to a church for the very first time. As you and your family walked through the door, the greeter barely lifted his eyes to greet you and says, “’Sup?” You then notice the hallway is littered with trash. You have your children with you so you find your way to the children’s wing. You then discover two adult workers in the back playing cards and the kids are running around basically unsupervised. The children’s ministry room is a pig pen and the electrical outlets are uncovered with little children crawling close by with forks in their hands!
But of course, you are “Jesus junior” and you only look at the adult’s hearts! Maybe appearance does matter after all! Remember this: Clean up, cheer up and choose up…if you truly want to go up!
Join us next week as we continue this series – “From Here!”
