09 Aug It is What It Is (Discovering the true character of God…because He is not a car-wrecking, cancer causing Creator, but a loving, life giving Lord!) part 2
Understanding God’s true nature and character is absolutely vital if we are to continually “cometh” to Him! Remember this: You always return to a place of pleasure. Let me illustrate.
As of this writing, my wife Anne and I are about to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary! Approximately 26 years ago we honeymooned in Hilton Head, South Carolina. We absolutely love it there! It is to this day our get-away spot and we return there four times a year! It is a place of pleasure for us and we obviously return often!
Conversely, I remember many years ago Anne and I were preaching in Missouri at a large local church. One of the pastors was kind enough to lend us their small home for the few days while we were there ministering for them. While it was very gracious to let us stay in their home, they did not reveal two disconcerting things. First, the pastor’s wife had just gotten over a wicked case of the flu. The bedroom that they allowed us to stay in wreaked with the stench of vomit! Secondly, they had a little rat dog that they deemed as “harmless”. The dog’s name was “Butkis”! They should have named him “Cujo” because I think he was demon possessed (lol)!
Every morning when we got up this “harmless” dog would growl and try to bite my legs. I literally had to protect Anne from this dog from hell on a daily basis! Needless to say, Anne and I were not in any hurry to return there. It was not a place of pleasure!
As I said, understanding the true nature and character of God is imperative. How you view Him is vital. Please allow me to give you “4 Vital View Verifications”:
- How you view Him will determine how much you come to Him.
- How you view Him is how you will treat others. In other words, if you think He’s mad at you, it will be very difficult for you to treat others kindly.
- How you view Him will determine your outlook on life.
- How you view Him will determine your destiny.
Clearly, you can see we must discover the true nature and character of God…so much in life is riding on it!
