28 Mar It is What It Is (Discovering the true character of God…because He is not a car-wrecking, cancer causing Creator, but a loving, life giving Lord!) part 31
Over the last number of months we have shared with you our key verse for this series found in Hebrews 11:6, “For without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Let’s continue sharing from 11 Characteristics concerning the Character of God:
First let’s review…
- You can’t create God in your own image (Rom. 1:25).
- Heaven yes…Hell no!
- Sin ruins the view
- Will the real God please stand up? (John 10:10)
- The weather outside is frightful (Rom. 8:19-23, Matt. 24:1-8)
- Who’s in charge here? (II Cor. 4:4, Luke 4:6)
Here we remember the Bible tells us “Submit yourself therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Please allow me to give you “Four Submit and Resist Reasonings”:
- If everything that happened was the will of a sovereign God…then you should submit to everything and resist nothing.
- Clearly we should submit to God and His Word, and resist the devil and his works.
- If your “resister” is not working, check out your “submitter”. In other words, if you are resisting the devil and he is not fleeing…check out your level of submission to God. You can’t play “footsie” with the devil under the table and expect to resist him over the table.
- You must get under what’s over you so you can get over what’s under you!
This week we continue…
Knowing these truths, we must think on this…if everything that happens is the will of a sovereign God, then why even give us the “Great Commission” in Mark 16:15-20? There the Bible tells us to “Go into all the world and preach (the Greek word “keruxen” which means proclaim) the gospel.” If everything that happens is the will of a sovereign God, why waste your breath because after all, people will simply go to heaven or hell based on the whims of a sovereign God!
If everything that happens is simply the will of a sovereign God then why did Jesus teach us principles from the Lord’s prayer (see Matthew 6:9-13)? There He taught us the principle “Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” The Greek is actually in the command form and reads this way, “Come thy kingdom and be done thy will on earth as it is in heaven.” Clearly you can see God desires human involvement in His plan and purpose. Remember this: Miracles occur when human participation meets Divine orchestration! Remember this also: God does not go where He’s needed, He goes where He’s invited.
Join us next week as we dive deeper into this important truth concerning the – Character of God…
