It is What It Is (Discovering the true character of God…because He is not a car-wrecking, cancer causing Creator, but a loving, life giving Lord!) part 32

If everything that happens is simply the will of a sovereign God then why did Jesus teach us principles from the Lord’s prayer (see Matthew 6:9-13)?  There He taught us the principle “Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  The Greek is actually in the command form and reads this way, “Come thy kingdom and be done thy will on earth as it is in heaven.”  Clearly you can see God desires human involvement in His plan and purpose.  Remember this:  Miracles occur when human participation meets Divine orchestration!  Remember this also:  God does not go where He’s needed, He goes where He’s invited.

Over the last  number of months we have shared with you our key verse for this series found in Hebrews 11:6, “For without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Let’s continue sharing from 11 Characteristics concerning the Character of God:

First let’s review…

  1. You can’t create God in your own image (Rom. 1:25).
  2. Heaven yes…Hell no!
  3. Sin ruins the view
  4. Will the real God please stand up?  (John 10:10)
  5. The weather outside is frightful (Rom. 8:19-23, Matt. 24:1-8)
  6. Who’s in charge here?  (II Cor. 4:4, Luke 4:6)

Now that we know that God does not go where He’s needed, He goes where He’s invited – let’s us continue by explaining:  “Four Interesting Invitation Items”:

  1. If God responded to need only, He would perpetuate sin.  Let me give you an example.  Let’s say a young couple got married and the husband was addicted to gambling.  Let’s say he bet all his money on the Michigan football team.  Well of course, he lost all his money!  Well God is not just going to keep giving him money so he can keep gambling away.  God then becomes an enabler of sin (see Prov. 19:19).
  2. If God responds to need only, He will erode away at man’s free will.  God created you in His image and likeness (see Gen. 1:26) as a free-will moral agent.  He will respect your will all the way to Hell.  Life is choice driven (see Deut. 30:19).
  3. Once God has delegated authority He will not take it back.  God will not wash your dirty dishes for you.  God will not raise your children for you.  God will not kick the devil out of your house…you must resist him!
  4. God always responds to the invitation of faith (Heb. 11:6).  God is light and will come in any crack in the door you’ll give Him.  Why not swing the door wide open by faith and let Him flood your house with His goodness!

Because your God is not a car-wrecking, cancer causing Creator, but a loving, life-giving Lord!
